Fashion show fundraiser for anti-bullying campaign

Submitted Photo Jason Franchville, Cascade High School class of 2015, and Ariel Higgins, South Putnam High School class of 2015, participated in last year's Fashion Review at Dixie Chopper.

All profits from the third annual Fashion Review will be donated to a campaign based in Indiana focused on eliminating bullying.

The Fashion Review, sponsored by Jeremy and Vickie Photography based in Greencastle, is set for Sunday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Dixie Chopper Airport Hotel and Conference Center. The husband and wife photography team, Jeremy and Vickie Black, have donated the proceeds from the event to the organization Angels and Doves each year.

The non-profit organization's website, www.angelsanddoves.com, describes its mission as a "charity that travels across the country to prevent bullying, bullying injuries and bullying suicides."

Vickie Black said the event was inspired by a fellow photographer in another state raising funds for another organization. But, Black wanted to focus on raising money for bullying prevention. She met with a few organizations focused on bullying, but after meeting with Angels and Doves co-founder Kim Harvey she knew the organization was a good fit.

"I have a say in where the money helps. If a student or parent tells me of something that is going on, I can have her go there (to do a presentation). No kid should have to suffer in silence," Black stressed.

The proceeds from the ticket sales and donated silent auction items help to raise money for the organization. The first year, the Fashion Review raised $3,400. Last year, the event raised $6,750 for Angels and Doves.

Some of the silent auction items for this year's event will include a month of CrossFit Unbreakable out of Plainfield, beer tasting at Ram Restaurant, a bread basket, gift certificate to Taylor-Mays Salon and Spa, golfing at Deer Creek and gift certificates for several restaurants including Olive Garden, Cheddars and Texas Roadhouse. Black said these are just a few of the items that will be available.

Black said she expects the event to be even bigger and better than last year. There will be 50 students from 16 schools, including students from Greencastle High School, North Putnam High School, South Putnam High School and Cloverdale High School. The models are clients of Jeremy and Vickie Photography from the classes of 2015 and 2016.

"This is a way for our clients and our model crews to give back to the communities they represent," Black stressed.

A representative from an area modeling agency sits up front to scout the teens participating in the event. Black said last year, she had two young girls get signed to a modeling contract after the event.

The models for the Fashion Review will not be the only ones getting the star treatment at the event. The red carpet will be rolled out, with a step and repeat banner. Professional photographer friends of the Black', including Jessika Feltz Photography and Meyer Studio, will be snapping photos of guests.

Black said it takes a lot of help to be able to put the fundraising event on, and they are especially grateful to Dixie Chopper for being gracious enough to host the event for the second year in a row. She said the venue is the only one large enough in Greencastle to suit them and stressed she wants to keep the event in the city.

Little Mo's Pizzaria annually donates the runway, and Denney Excavating serves as the top sponsor for the event. Taylor Made Awards donates event shirts for the models, which are also sent out to the crowd. Men's Warehouse donates $2,000 worth of clothes to be worn on the runway and the Buckle lets the models pick outfit to borrow during the show. Younique Culture in Plainfield will be styling some of the models' hair, with Identity Design helping as well. Courtney Hampton will be in charge of make-up.

"If it wasn't for those people, this show would never happen," Black stressed.

There are still general admission tickets on sale for $15 each. Tickets can be purchased online at www.jeremyandvickie.com/blog/thefashionreview-2 or by calling Black at 653-7729.
