Violin maker Bean at PCPL for program Wednesday

Friday, April 3, 2015

Greencastle resident John Bean will give a talk on the art and science of violin making on Wednesday, April 8 at the Putnam County Public Library, 103 E. Poplar St.

The free program is scheduled from 6-7 p.m.

Bean has been making violins for the past 15 years, and for 15 years before that studied oil painting.

During those 30 years his day job was professor of higher education at Indiana University-Bloomington. Now retired, he devotes hours to fussing over the wood, varnish, design and tools that make violin making endlessly complicated and interesting.

Material on his website (johnbeanviolins.com) describes some of the issues.
