White shines in big Cloverdale win

TURKEY RUN -- Cloverdale went out to Turkey Run Thursday and claimed a 9-2 win thanks to lots of scoring and junior Braden White's 12 strikeouts.

"Brayden handled the sloppy conditions on the mound well," CHS coach Jarrod Duff said. "He struggled with it early in the game, but was able to get comfortable on the mound as the game progressed."

White only gave up four hits, with three walks and two batter hits. His 12 Ks came with only one earned run.

Sophomore Joe Martin went 3-4 as did freshman Haiden Davis. White also went 2-2 scoring twice.

"I was pleased with our approach at the plate last night against Turkey Run. We had 10 hits and several of those were timely hits with runners in scoring position. We also showed good patience at the plate."

Duff was glad to see big hits return to the Clovers as they get into the mid-season grind.

"This was really great to see because we have made this an area of importance. I feel like we went through a week-long slump hitting the ball as a team primarily because of our pitch selection. The fact that we were able to not only reach base with 10 hits, but also have five walks, was very encouraging."

CHS' doubleheader with Union Dugger on Friday finished too late for publication. Cloverdale next face North Putnam twice on Monday and Tuesday.
