Greencastle's baseball team falls at home

Sunday, April 19, 2015

The Tiger Cub baseball team fought to make a comeback against South Vermillion Saturday, but Greencastle couldn't muster up the scoring and lost a heartbreaker 6-5 at home.

After the Wildcats jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first inning, Greencastle had to work to get back in the game. The Tiger Cubs scored one in each the third and fourth innings and in the fifth they scored two runs, with South Vermillion scoring one. This tied the game at five with two innings to play.

The Tiger Cubs, however, were unable to score after South Vermillion made it home at the top of the sixth.

Brandon Workman was the workhorse on the mound, giving up but four hits with two runs and a walk. He pitched four innings and he held South Vermillion scoreless for three innings.

Nicholson stole two bases en route to three runs, and Trey Scanland earned two RBIs with one hit.

Greencastle will be at home again for the first of a Cascade match-up on Monday. GHS will then travel to its conference rival on Tuesday.
