Louise May Harmless

Louise May (Darnell) Harmless, 93, of New Winchester, passed away Aug. 5, 2015 at the Villages of Avon.

Louise was born March 4, 1922 in Putnam County to Robert E. and Hazel Agnes (Hartman) Darnell.

She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School.

Louise married Wilfred Wayne Harmless on April 15, 1940, and he preceded her in death two days after their 75th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2015.

She was a happy mother, homemaker and farmer's wife, as well as being a secretary for the Indiana State Police for 16 years, retiring in 1984.

Louise was a member of the Whitestone Christian Church, Groveland Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 330 (now associated with Greencastle), of which she served as past matron and longtime secretary of the chapter. She also served as a former Grand Representative.

Survivors include a son, William Wayne (Phyllis) Harmless, Groveland; a daughter, Jo Ellen (Ronald) Reed, New Winchester; adopted children Danny (Carolyn) Fritzinger, Coatesville; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a stepsister, New Lokos, Chicago; a sister-in-law, Betty Harmless, Greencastle; and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10 at Whitestone Christian Church, seven miles west of Danville on U.S. 36, with visitation there from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in New Winchester Cemetery.
