Helping a young student try on a hoodie at Greencastle Walmart earlier this week, Deputy Mike Downing of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department volunteers his time to the annual Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police Shop-with-a-Cop program. More than 30 children participated in the 17th annual event. Students from all four school districts were summoned by project coordinator Tara Baugh by recommendations from the schools' counselors. Police officers from the Greencastle Police Department, Indiana Excise Police, Cloverdale Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff's Department, DePauw Public Safety and Danville Police participated in the shop. FOP President Jerrod Baugh is grateful to all who helped. "This is our keystone event each year and the officers show up after long night shifts and slide in between calls for service each year," Baugh said.
