Burglaries, impaired driver keep deputies busy Saturday night

Two business burglaries and a pursuit of an impaired driver kept Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies busy on Saturday evening.

The liquor store in Fillmore and the Fairway restaurant north of Greencastle were both broken into by juveniles.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons stopped a white Jeep for a traffic violation and observed numerous boxes of cigarettes, cases of beer and distilled liquor bottles stacked within the vehicle and began questioning the driver.

Information led to another vehicle and occupants being used to relay the stolen items as they kept going back getting loads of merchandise.

Reports and related investigations surrounding this event will be forwarded to the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of charges.

In another incident, Deputy Virgil Lanning attempted to stop Jeffrey Van Bibber of Bainbridge for a traffic violation at State Road 243 and County Road 1050 South when Van Bibber refused to stop, fleeing westbound onto 1050 South at high speeds

Van Bibber ultimately lost control at County Road 300 West, crashing through a fence.

Even after the crash, Van Bibber repeatedly failed to comply with Lanning's verbal orders and resisted the deputy's attempt to apprehend him.

Van Bibber was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest and battery on law enforcement.
