It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

Wednesday, December 2, 2015

With December already upon us, downtown Greencastle was getting into the holiday spirit Tuesday, with many buildings decorated and other spots being adorned for the season.

Eitel's Florist owner Jenny Sullivan delivered 38 free wreaths to nearby businesses and organizations as part of the fifth annual wreathing of Greencastle...

...before later placing bows on 24 of the city's antique lamp posts.

The posts are also adorned with holiday banners thanks to the efforts of Greencastle Public Works employees such as Derrick Grimes.

Already existing ornamentation around town includes a warm holiday greeting on the window of Abstract and Title...

...wreaths in the upstairs windows of Almost Home...

...as well as poinsettias downstairs...

...the Peanuts gang at Myers Market...

...with that crazy beagle asleep on the roof...

...and one of the many strands encircling the courthouse in a canopy of lights.

  • What's frustrating is that the courthouse doesn't spend a little to update their lights like everyone around them. The strings of lights coming from the roof and the standing figure lights are the same lights that were on the courthouse lawn back in 1990. Spend a little money and update your Christmas décor and make downtown a little more attractive during the holidays.

  • Um...if you didn't notice, that dude on the ladder with the bright vest is from the city, which means the city is taking part.

And as for the complaints about the county decorations, I think they look nice. Who cares if they're from the '90s. They still work, don't they? If they got all new ones, people would be lining up to complain about the waste of money.

I guess I fail to see how this of all articles generated two ****** complaints.

The truth is, downtown looks great! Good job, everybody.

  • I don't think they are "********". They are only stating their opinions. The string lights from the courthouse are actually sparse to say the least. I love to look at most of the Windows downtown. But since they want to be more like hendricks county maybe they should take a little drive to little ole danville and see how they decorate their thriving downtown.

  • To clarify, I never said downtown didn't look good. I think the surrounding businesses look wonderful! With the recent updates to their storefronts and their decorating for the holidays, Downtown Greencastle is a very inviting place. However, as dirtypolitics stated, the lights are sparse on the courthouse and could use some updating. Plus, if they'd update to LED lights they may be more expensive up front but in the end don't have to be replaced as frequently and use less energy, which brings cost down in the long run. I'm proud to call Greencastle my home. It was just a little constructive criticism, which apparently you can't handle much of.
