'Clear the Kennels' on tap for Dec. 19 at animal shelter

Sunday, December 13, 2015

For the first time, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and the Humane Society of Putnam County are inviting the community to help "clear the kennels" at a Home for the Holidays event on Saturday, Dec. 19 from noon to 4 p.m.

Cats and dogs will be available for a reduced rate so that they may all spend the holidays in their forever home.

"We want to clear the kennels for the holiday season so no animal has to spend it at the shelter," Shelter Director Randy Patrick said.

Animals that will be available for adoption can be viewed at http://hspcanimals.org/for-adoption/.

At the event, the shelter will be accepting donations of clay cat litter, canned dog food and toys for the shelter animals.

Additionally, donations may be dropped off at the shelter during its normal operating hours, Wednesday-Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.

The shelter is located at 4700 E. State Road 240, Greencastle.

Donations are also being accepted at Rescued Treasures, 1021 Indianapolis Rd., Greencastle, and SPOT Spay/Neuter Clinic, 612 S. Main St., Cloverdale.

For questions about this event, persons may call the shelter at 653-1943.
