County Jail

Four people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Kellie Sue Morphew, 19, Greencastle, was booked into the jail for probation violation.

* At 2:29 p.m. on Wednesday, Keitrell Lewis Elmore, 32, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for possession of a controlled substance.

At 3 p.m. Robert Stone Jr., 24, Bainbridge, was taken into custody for fraud and check fraud.

At 4:15 p.m. Chadwick John Mullins, 38, Greenwood, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to three recent automobile crashes.

* At 1 p.m. on Monday, Grady M. McHugh, 18, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 850 East in a 1999 Honda.

McHugh told Capt. Steve Fenwick that as he approached County Road 750 South, he encountered a southbound truck partially in his lane. He said he swerved to the right to avoid a collision.

Then as McHugh tried to correct the vehicle, he crossed the center line, left the road and hit a guy wire and an earthen embankment, causing his car to spin around and come to rest facing south.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 3:17 a.m. on Wednesday, Terry W. Bolden, 33, Wayne, Mich., was eastbound on Interstate 70 at the 44-mile marker in a 2007 Mercury Milan.

Bolden told Deputy Virgil Lanning that he tried to go around a vehicle he thought was stopped in the road. In doing so, he lost control on the snow-covered road and hit a guardrail end on the right side of the road.

The vehicle then slid back across the eastbound lanes and came to rest facing west on the shoulder of the median.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 6:03 a.m. on Wednesday, Richard E. Andrews, 46, Paragon, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Chrysler Sebring.

Andrews told Capt. Danny Wallace his right front tire got into a snowdrift and he lost control, going over an embankment and hitting a small tree.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to four dispatches and three medical assists.

* At 9:11 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 414 S. Indiana St. The alarm was determined to have been set off by cooking on the first floor.

* At 8:52 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD covered for the Cloverdale Fire Department at 52 W. Market St. in Cloverdale.

* At 4:11 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 109 W. Hanna St.

* At 7:55 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was determined to have been set off by haircare products.
