Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11:25 a.m. on Friday, Michael DeWayne Grimes, 31, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for operating as a habitual traffic violator and probation violation.

At 12:15 p.m. Jessica Ashlee Keck, 32, Terre Haute, was booked in on a court order.

At 6 p.m. Darren Huff, 41, Greencastle, was taken into custody for contempt of court.

At 6:59 p.m. Gary D. King, 50, Greencastle, was arrested on a court order.

At 8:30 p.m. Russell Dean Zigler, 68, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

* At 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, Skyler Forrest Mann, 19, Cloverdale, was booked in on a warrant.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies have responded to a number of recent property-damage crashes.

* At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Ivy R. Overkrom, 33, Cloverdale, was southbound on State Road 243 just south of U.S. 40 in a 2008 Dodge Caravan when she hit a deer.

Deputy Anthony Brown estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

* At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Hannah E. Paist, 20, Elmhurst, Ill., was southbound on U. S. 231 in the Plessinger Hill area in a 2008 Honda Odyssey.

Paist told Lt. Donnie Pettit she braked and lost control on the snowy roadway. The car then veered off the east side of the road and into a ditch.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

Pettit was assisted at the scene by Capt. Tom Helmer and Capt. Danny Wallace.

* At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Mildred Duggins, 69, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 300 South (Jones Road) when she lost control of her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Duggins told Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert she left the road, hit a mailbox and came to rest on the east side of the road.

Lambert also reported that at the time, there were multiple crashes in the area due to blowing snow and limited visibility.

Duggins and her grandson were not apparently injured. Family members assisted them from the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 5 p.m. on Sunday, Rachel M. Scarpelli, 20, Lombard, Ill., was southbound on County Road 825 East in a 2012 Kia.

Scarpelli attempted to turn left onto County Road 750 South but lost control on the snow and ice and slid into a ditch.

Another driver pulled the vehicle out.

Capt. Helmer estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to 12 dispatches, three medical runs and one lift-assist.

* At 5:22 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 504 E. Seminary St. GFD was unable to determine the cause of the alarm and returned to station at 5:35 p.m.

* At 6:16 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 303 S. Locust St. GFD was unable to determine the cause of the alarm and returned to station at 6:32 p.m.

* At 6:33 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. GFD found the detector in question and was unable to determine why it had been set off and returned to station at 6:35 p.m.

* At 12:21 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 446 Anderson St. The alarm had been unnecessarily set off due to a pull station. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:42 a.m.

* At 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. but was disregarded en route. GFD returned to station at 1:25 a.m.

* At 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 109 W. Hanna St. The alarm had been set off due to cooking. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 1:36 p.m.

* At 4:52 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 626 E. Seminary St. The alarm was determined to have been caused by smoking. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 5:07 p.m.

* At 1:32 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 807 S. College Ave. but was disregarded en route. GFD returned to station at 1:35 a.m.

* At 3:13 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 905 S. College Ave. but was disregarded en route. GFD returned to station at 3:14 a.m.

* At 2:52 p.m. on Sunday, GFD assisted Cloverdale Fire Department during afternoon inclement weather as CFD dealt with more than 50 accidents along the Interstate 70 corridor until 6:43 p.m. Dispatches received by GFD on behalf of CFD are as follows:

* At 3:11 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the I-70 mile-marker 50 but was disregarded en route.

* At 3:26 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the I-70 mile-marker 48 and checked for injuries in an incident not involving the multi-car pile up that occurred Sunday afternoon during heavy snowfall.
