David James 'Jim' Powell

David James "Jim" Powell, 64, of Brown County, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his home.

Jim was born in Vincennes on Nov. 16, 1951. He was the son of David "Dink" Andrew Powell and Beulah Mae (Wright) Powell. They preceded him in death.

Jim was a Vietnam War veteran who proudly served in the United States Air Force as a jet aircraft maintenance specialist. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for 36 years, a member of the Teamsters Union for 40 years, working as a driver and dock worker for Schneider and Holland Trucking, and a gunsmith.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Amber K. (Emmons) Powell of Nineveh; daughters Brandy Ann Emmons-Powell of Manassas Park, Va., and A. Leigh Powell-Adams of Nineveh, granddaughters Brooklyn Utterback of Indianapolis and Lauren KayAnn Adams of Nineveh; and siblings Dallas Powell of Vincennes, DeAnna Powell Nance of Petersburg, Danny Powell of Blairesville, Ga., Debbie Powell of Vincennes and DeNise Powell of Vincennes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Andrew and Beulah Mae (Wright) Powell, and grandparents James and Ardella Wright and David and Ethel Powell.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 5802 Old Settlers Rd., Morgantown, Ind. Pastor Phil Meadows will officiate. Burial will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive visitors Friday, April 15 at the church from 4-8 p.m.
