William O. 'Tiny' Young

William O. "Tiny" Young, 89, of Greencastle, passed away at Putnam County Hospital at 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Mr. Young was born April 15, 1927 in Washington County, Ky., to Delbert and Almeda (Ross) Young.

On Oct. 16, 1947 he married Greencastle resident Margueritte Evelyn St. Clair, who preceded him in death on May 30, 1985. He went on to marry Wanita Hathaway of Greencastle on Sept. 2, 1986; she too preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1994.

Mr. Young was a veteran of World War II. He served in South Pacific with the 762nd Engineers.

Upon leaving the U.S. Army he joined Lone Star Industries on May 10, 1948 and retired in 1989 as a machinist.

He was a member of the former Limedale Baptist Church since 1986.

Survivors include his daughter, Claudette Young of Montana; son Buford "Buck" (Janet) Young of Bainbridge,; grandchildren Melissa and Lee (Tracy) Young; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; stepson, Bryan (Stacia) Hathaway of Greencastle; sisters Thelma Hollar and Darlene Rogers; brother-in-law Homer Hardin, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first and second wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jewel Hardin and brothers-in-law Charles Hollar, Boyd Coulter and Jessie Rogers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, where friends and family will gather from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 20.

Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
