4-H involvement can be interesting, fun

Thursday, June 2, 2016

4-H is a fun thing to do in the summer. It's not just showing farm animals; if you have a dog or a cat, you can show them too. 4-H keeps you busy year round when you aren't doing sports, and it offers scholarships after 10 years of participation.

There are around 55 projects you can choose from besides animals. 4-H isn't just for farmers; if you do sports or other activities, you can do 4-H too. 4-H is fun, you make memories, you can try new things, you show, you go to the fair, you can do 4-H camp, you can take projects to the State Fair, and if you do show animals then you can do Battle of the Barns. I believe more people should be involved in 4-H.

In 4-H you learn important life skills. Some of the skills you can learn through 4-H are cooking, sewing, agriculture, and wildlife. Projects that will help you with these skills are sewing wearable/non wearable, cooking, microwave cooking, food preservation, and forestry. If you don't think that you would like these projects, there are many more for guys and girls.

4-H is for everyone. You can live in the city or in the country and do 4-H. Some of the projects you can do are archery, gardening, child development, shooting sports, electricity, and even woodworking. These projects also teach you to try new things that you wouldn't have thought of trying. These projects can give you an idea of what you might want to explore after high school.

4-H is a great and fun thing to do in the summer after school's out. There is 4-H camp that you can attend, and if you are a junior leader in 4-H, you can apply to be a counselor for camp. 4-H Camp is always in June, so it's not too cold and it's not too hot. You can apply to be a counselor in seventh grade all the way through 12th grade. In 12th grade you can even apply to be a camp director. County fair is also in the summer, and if you do really well, you can take your project to the State Fair. If you are a girl, you can do the queen's contest your senior year.

I believe that more people need to get involved in 4-H. Not only is it fun, but you also learn important life skills along the way. You make a ton of memories and meet a bunch of people that like to do the same things as you. There are so many projects and activities available that everyone can find something that interests them.

If you like to have fun with friends and learn new things, give 4-H a try.
