CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale girls' golf team opened its season in a big way on Tuesday, defeating Northview and Linton in a three-way match at Clover Meadows.

The Clovers finished with 210 strokes, while Northview was second with 228 and Linton was third with 245.

"I was very pleased with the results," Clover coach Matt Langdon said. "To shoot 210 is a great score for us for our first meet of the year.

"It's always nice to see a freshman [Sammie Shrum] earn low medalist in her first meet," Langdon added. "She has a lot of potential." Shrum shot a 51, not getting higher than six strokes on any hole, and tied for co-medalist honors with Shay Ehrlich of Northview.

Abbie Speas was one stroke behind Shrum with a 52 for the Clovers, followed by Abby Walker ata 53, Ambrie Kidder at 54 and Hannah Nichols at 63.

"Speas and Walker hung in nicely, but both felt they could definitely cut some strokes off in upcoming meets," Langdon said. "Ambrie Kidder played well to post a nice fourth score for us."
