Edythe E. Benedix Schendel

Edythe E. Benedix Schendel, 99, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at Asbury Towers Retirement Community in Greencastle, where she had resided for 15 years.

She was born April 23, 1917 in La Moure, N.D., to Ernest and Theressa Josephine Benedix.

On May 13, 1938 she was married at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, to V. Kenneth Schendel of Milwaukee, Wis., and who died June 10, 2001.

Two sisters also preceded her in death.

Edythe was a homemaker and volunteer. She received great satisfaction from her family and from her many gardening and sewing projects.

She will be greatly missed, but especially by those who called her Mom, Grams and GiGi.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greencastle.

Two daughters survive her, Judith Funk (Gerald) of Hondo, Texas, and Rita Schendel (Robert Calvert) of Greencastle. Also surviving is one sister, nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Asbury Towers who looked after Edythe's needs with care and compassion for all the years she was a resident.

Graveside services and interment will be held at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
