Helen Martina Smith McKee

Helen Martina Smith McKee, of Greencastle, passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 after a brief illness.

Helen was born in 1921 to the late Eva Doane Smith and the late Martin Smith of Bedford, and raised on the family farm.

Helen and Sherman Lee McKee Jr. of Danville, Ind., were married in 1949 and were the parents of Eva Marie McKee and Sherman Lee McKee III, who survive.

Together Helen and Sherm worked a farm implement business and later Sherm's Real Estate in Greencastle.

Sherm Jr. predeceased Helen in 1989. Helen was also predeceased by her infant brother, Ivan Wayne McKee.

Sherm and Helen were grandparents of Katherine McKee-Cole and Liza McKee-Cole, Marie's children with her husband Robert Cole, and were the grandparents of Evan McKee, Ian McKee and Abby McKee, children of Sherm III with his wife Jane McKee.

In addition to other McKee relatives, Helen is survived by her brother-in-law, John McKee, and sister-in-law, Betty McKee, and their sons, Maurice McKee and Mark McKee, all of whom along with their families have been wonderful help to Helen over the years.

There will be no calling hours.

The family plans a graveside memorial to celebrate the lives of Helen and Sherm, and a notice will be published in the summer.
