SAWs seeks donations for its 9th year of helping the handicapped

Monday, February 27, 2017

This year will be the ninth birthday of the SAWs Mission, which provides handicap ramps to the handicapped in Putnam County.

Since its start in 2009, SAWs has set 137 residents free to come and go in their with little or no help. SAWs, of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, is the only organization in Putnam County that offers ramps, usually at no cost, to those that need improved access to their homes.

SAWs helps 20 to 25 Putnam County residents each year with ramps, steps and safety rails. The average ramps costs between $600 and $1,500, depending on the size and complexity of the design. The organization is supported by grants, donations and volunteers.

If you know of someone who is handicapped and needs help accessing their home, let them know about SAWs. The value of the SAWs Mission to the community can be seen with the joy on the face of a resident who has just been freed from their home.

SAWs can be reached at 765-653-5713 or email at churchoffice@cinergymetro.net.
