Putnam County is full of character, from its many quaint towns to its agricultural industry. No thriving agricultural community is complete without its own collection of family farm barns.

Author and photographer Ken Torr has taken on the beautiful task of preserving these treasures in photographs. His newest book, “The Barns of Putnam County” is ready for pre-order until May 1.

Torr was born on a Hoosier Homestead family farm. He graduated from Greencastle High School as well as Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in animal science.

Through his career he worked for First Citizen’s Bank & Trust, now known as Old National Bank, as a farm representative and later an assistant trust officer. Later in Torr’s career he worked for Indiana Farmer magazine as well as the Prairie Farmer as a livestock fieldman.

In his retirement Torr has enjoyed many things. He has built an Angus cow herd, plays golf and enjoys the pleasures of being an avid amateur photographer.

He also takes time to enjoy family and is currently working on a “professional piddler’s” license.

At the Putnam County Museum gift shop, located at 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, you can pre-order your own copy Tuesday-Friday from 1-4p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The museum is available via phone at 653-8419 or at its website at www.putnamcountymuseum.org or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PutnamCoMuseum for upcoming events, giveaways, information on exhibits and other news about the museum.
