Donald R. Tharp, 79, Danville, passed away on May 3, 2017.

He was born Oct. 17, 1937 in Greencastle to Harry and Gladys (Keller) Tharp.

He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1956.

He received a bachelor's degree from Butler University before attending IU School of Dentistry.

Don served as a dental officer during the Vietnam War.

He had a private dental practice in Greencastle for six years before accepting a position at the IU School of Dentistry, ultimately serving as associate dean before retiring in 2001.

Don served on the Danville Town Council (park commissioner), church elder and the Little League Baseball Board. He was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan and finally saw a World Series championship.

Don is survived by his wife, Gail (O'Brien) Tharp; daughter Maureen (Steve) Elliott of Danville; grandchildren Seth of Niles, Mich., and Sarah Elliott of Danville; and his sister, Marleen (Kenny) Ames, of Fillmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gladys (Keller) Tharp.

A memorial service was conducted Monday, May 8 at West Bridge Church, Danville.
