Tiger Cubs, Cougars compete in three-way match at Lebanon

LEBANON — Greencastle and North Putnam traveled to the Cool Lake Golf Club on Monday, with the Tiger Cubs competing in their third event of the young season and the Cougars in their opener.

Lebanon won with a 156, while Greencastle had a 226 and North Putnam had a 232.

GHS was led by senior Macey Masten with a 43 in a “consistent round,” according to coach Steve Paquin. Marin Nally added a 56, while Taylor Dixon paced North Putnam with a 45.

“The girls were playing Cool Lake for the first time and playing the ball down for the first time,” Paquin said. “This presented the girls with tough lies in the rough and large sloping greens made putting difficult.

“Our players are learning each time out that each course presents different conditions they have yet to experience, but each course teaches you about the difficulties from any other course.”

Paquin said the ability to learn to adapt to each new course layout is a key in improvement.

“They have to learn from each course in order to lower scores and improve,” he said. “Overall this was a great experience for a young team.

North Putnam coach Linda Patrick said her young team competed well.

“With the inexperience of four new freshman and the leadership and experience of senior Taylor Dixon and sophomore Abby Simmerman, the Lady Cougars managed to card a very respectable score for the first meet of the season,” she said.

Patrick noted that Dixon and Simmerman both struggled with their putting.

“All four freshmen managed to stay under 70, which is a rare case for a first meet,” she said. “The Lady Cougars have great potential this year with the dedication of the new team members.
