Girls

Cloverdale (5-1) at Eastern Greene (1-3)

Game time: 1:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Matthew Langdon is in his seventh year at Cloverdale with a record of 52-88. Justin Burris is in his first year at Easten Greene.

So far: Cloverdale beat Turkey Run 85-20, beat Riverton Parke 65-34, beat North Central 89-56, beat Shakamak 81-30, lost 55-50 to South Putnam and beat North Putnam 57-27.

Eastern Greene beat Lighthouse Christian Academy 63-30, lost 57-17 to Loogootee, lost 59-22 to Washington and lost 78-10 to Owen Valley.

History: Cloverdale won 51-40 last year on its homecourt. Eastern Greene has won six of the last eight meetings.

Key players: Tori Combs leads the Clovers with 16.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game. Sammie Shrum adds 16.0 points and 6.7 rebounds, while Abby Walker averags 12.8 points and Hailey Thomas adds 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 4.0 steals per game.

Eastern Greene is led in scoring by freshman Shelley Tarr at 6.0 and junior Michelle Hatfield at 5.5.

Boys

Cloverdale at Terre Haute South

Game time: 7:30 p.m. varsity tipoff

The coaches: Patrick Rady is in his third year at Cloverdale with a record of 40-15. Maynard Lewis is in his second year at Terre Haute South with a record of 19-8.

So far: The game is the season opener for both teams.

History: Terre Haute South won the last meeting between the teams 82-49 on Dec. 27, 2002, in the Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic.

Cloverdale defeated South in the 1983 Terre Haute Regional championship game.

Key players: Cloverdale is led by senior guard Jalen Moore, the state’s third-leading returning scorer. Moore was fourth in the state last season with 27.5 points per game.

South is led by 6-3 senior guard De’Avion Washington, who has signed to play for Indiana State next season. Washington and Moore were both members of the Junior All-Stars last summer.

Washington has been a member of the Braves’ varsity squad for the last three seasons, and they have gone 57-23 during that time, including a sectional championship two years ago. Last season, Washington averaged 19.6 points, 2.6 steals and 2.1 assists for the Braves. He shot 56 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range.
