Tuesday

• At 5:06 p.m. Sanjin Kaliman, 27, Avon, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 12:59 p.m. Deric Lee Coffman, 23, Poland, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

City Police

A 35-year-old Greencastle woman was arrested Tuesday morning after spending a reported 12 hours in the Walmart store while attempting to steal nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise.

• At 9:34 a.m. Jennifer Nicole Green was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance as well as a probation violation.

Green was reportedly inside the store or making trips back and forth to her car from 8 p.m. Monday until 8 a.m. Tuesday, allegedly taking 78 items in merchandise worth an estimated $976. None of the items was valued individually at more than $35, police officials said.

The suspect allegedly took drinks, makeup, clothes, Timex watches, a computer mouse and more.

She was apprehended while reportedly wearing layers of tank tops, police said.

Authorities said that at one point on the store surveillance video, Green could be seen taking a drinking cup from a shelf and going over to the juice section where she reportedly poured herself a drink.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage accidents.

• At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Louis W. Ridgway, 92, Greencastle, was trying to back out of a parking place in his driveway on County Road 350 North in a 2008 Ford F150.

Ridgway backed through a fence and into two trees.

He told Deputy Jeffery Freeman he did not know how this happened, but believed that his accelerator became stuck.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Hannah S. Jones, 21, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 300 East, just north of County Road 50 South, when she lost control of her 2009 Chevrolet Aveo.

The vehicle left the west side of the road and came to rest in the ditch.

Lt. Donnie Pettit estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 10:40 a.m. on Monday, Joshua S. Stephens, 38, Rockville, was traveling northwest on County Road 625 West in a 1998 Toyota Corolla when his car left the roadway.

The vehicle traveled approximately 40 feet before it impacted a Frontier Communications telephone pole. The collision fractured the pole and caused it to fall on top of the car.

Capt. Tom Helmer reported that after impact, the car continued northwest, destroying a rock wall in front of the residence at 3913 N. CR 625 West.

The owner of the residence advised police that the impact with the pole blew the windows out of the vehicle, but that it then continued northwest and was last seen heading eastbound on County Road 325 North.

Capt. Helmer then called for Deputy Brian Helmer to look for the vehicle in the Van Bibber Lake Estates area. After a few minutes, Deputy Helmer responded that he had located the vehicle and that Stephens had admitted to being the driver.

Stephens advised that his license was suspended, and police found that a previous suspension showed on his record.

The owner of the vehicle was listed as Matthew Thistlewaite of Clinton, but Stephens advised that he had bought the vehicle from Thistlewaite and had no insurance on the vehicle.

Stephens was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 12:36 p.m. for leaving the scene of a property-damage crash, driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and driving without financial responsibility.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
