High school seniors invited to Putnam County Job Fair Wednesday

Friday, April 27, 2018

Local high school seniors looking for employment straight out of high school as well as those looking for a summer job before starting college are encouraged to attend the Putnam County Job Fair on Wednesday, May 2.

The inaugural event will take place from 9 a.m.-noon at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building.

It will be open to seniors at South Putnam, Greenastle and Area 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. and then to North Putnam and Cloverale students from 10:30-noon.

The job fair is a product of the Workforce Development Committee of the Greencastle/Putnam County Development Center. The original idea of that committee was to get local school officials and local employers in the same room to see how the former could help the latter meet their needs.

From the committee came the idea of the job fair, originally the idea of South Putnam Principal Mike Schimpf. With the school-employer relationships established through the committee, the job fair will take things a step further — putting the students in the same room with the employers they’ll be facing only a month from now.

While all seniors, regardless of future plans, are encouraged to attend, the schools are not requiring it.

Employers planning to attend include Almost Home Restaurant, Ascena Retail Group, Autumn Glenn, Black Lumber Company, Chiyoda Corporation, Civil Engineering, Co-Alliance, Crown Equipment Corporation, Dixie Chopper, Elder’s Journey Home Care, Endeavor Communications, Greencastle Parks Department, Inn at DePauw, Manpower, Putnam County Hospital, Putnam Plastics, Putnamville Correctional Facility, Spear Corporation, SMX Staff Management, Starbucks, TCU - Greencastle, ULG Staffing, Wabash Valley Goodwill Industries, Walmart Distribution Center, Waters of Greencastle and WorkOne.

Students should plan to arrive with completed applications and “dressed for success.” A generic application was created and distributed to all schools for the students to complete and use for this job fair

Parents of seniors who would like more information about the job fair may contact their student’s high school or the Development Center at 653-2474.
