BLOOMINGTON — Cloverdale senior Tyler Kaeff placed third in the 110 high hurdles at Thursday night’s Bloomington North boys’ regional track and field meet, earning a trip to the state finals next month.

Kaeff will compete at Indiana University on June 2 for the second time in his career. As a sophomore, Kaeff qualified for the state meet in both the 300 low hurdles and the 110 high hurdles.

His time of 14.57 in the finals was .3 of a second better than his preliminary heat time and broke his own school record. Kaeff finished .29 of a second behind runnerup Chase Washington of Bloomington South and .39 of a second behind the winner, Tremaine Gonzalez of Silver Creek.

Putnam County nearly had multiple state finals qualifiers, as Cloverdale senior pole vaulter Blake Willis and North Putnam’s 4x100 relay team each placed fourth in the regional and missed the state finals by just one position.

Willis cleared a height of 12-6 in fewer attempts than Santiato Imeroni of Terre Haute North and Kyle Wolf of Clay City, but was six inches behind third-place finisher Caleb Bollinger of Brownstown Central.

In the 4x100 relay, North Putnam’s team finished fourth as each of the top five teams were within a half second of each other.

Jeffersonville won with a time of 43.49, while Terre Haute North was second in 43.54 and Martinsville was third in 43.81.

North Putnam’s team of seniors Gage Bell and Brandon Barker, junior Chris Murray and sophomore Scott Proctor was just .15 of a second behind in fourth place. Bloomington North was fifth at 43.98.

In the team standings, Bloomington South won easily with 90 points. Runnerup Edgewood had 61 points. Cloverdale finished 20th with 11 points and North Putnam was tied for 23rd with five points.
