Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage accidents.

• At 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, Stephen D. Wise, 32, Gosport, was westbound at the intersection of State Road 240 and State Road 75 in a 2016 Dodge Ram. Rona L. Campbell, 57, Greencastle, was southbound on 75 in a 2013 Kia Sportage.

Wise told Deputy Matt Biggs he had stopped at the four-way intersection and proceeded westbound. Wise said he saw Campbell approaching from the north and that she did not stop, striking the rear of his pickup and causing damage to the passenger side.

Campbell told Biggs she stopped at the intersection and then continued through, as she did not see Wise’s vehicle.

Biggs said that evidence from the debris at the crash indicates Wise was already in the intersection, with right-of-way when the collision occurred.

A passenger in Wise’s vehicle sought medical attention after the accident, but traveled in a personal vehicle to Putnam County Hospital.

Campbell’s vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, James F. Tumey, 44, Jamestown, was westbound on U.S. 40, approaching U.S. 231 in a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.

Tumey told Deputy Biggs he was in the right lane when he hydroplaned on the wet road. The truck left the north side of U.S. 40, hitting a guardrail end and causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle as well as the guardrail.

Tumey and his passenger were transported from the scene by Operation Life for medical treatment.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.
