Northview tops WIC all-sports; Cubs top county teams in fifth

Not surprisingly, Northview dominates the Western Indiana Conference all-sports standings after the fall sports season.

The Knights won six of the eight championships, claiming all but boys’ tennis and girls’ cross country, to amass 156 points.

Edgewood, which was second in both the boys’ and girls’ standings, placed second overall. The Mustangs won in girls’ cross country, while South Putnam claimed the boys’ tennis crown.

Greencastle was the top overall county finisher in the fall standings, placing fifth on the strength of third-place finishes in football and volleyball.

Strong performances in volleyball (fifth place) and boys’ cross country (fourth) helped propel North Putnam into sixth place in the overall fall standings.

South Putnam finished 10th overall and Cloverdale 11th.

In the standings for the four girls’ fall sports, Cloverdale, Greencastle and North Putnam were in a four-way tie for fourth place. South Putnam finished tied for 11th.

In the boys’ standings, Greencastle and South Putnam tied for fifth overall and tops in Putnam County.

North Putnam tied for seventh and Cloverdale was 12th.

Team order of finish is determined in golf and cross country by the team standings in the tourney involving all competing schools.

In football, soccer, boys’ tennis and volleyball, the order is determined by the winners of crossover matches between teams finishing in similar positions in each division.

The top 15 individuals in golf and cross country tourneys are named all-conference in those sports. For the rest of the sports, teams are allowed a designated number of names to submit for all-conference honors based upon order of finish.
