Rev. Philip Henderson Badger

Rev. Philip Henderson Badger, 89, of Greencastle, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 at his residence.

Philip was born in Graysville on Jan. 12, 1930, the son of Frank and Beulah (Raines) Badger.

He was a graduate of Graysville High School.

Rev. Badger earned his bachelor’s degree in theology from Butler University and his master’s degree in criminology from Indiana State University.

Rev. Badger pastored for over 30 years at Reelsville United Methodist Church and worked as a chaplain and in administration at the Putnamville Correctional Facility.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Freda Badger; a daughter, Sondra Bowen and husband Howard of Greencastle; a sister, Eunice Hanthorn of Watertown, S.D.; two grandsons, Christopher Bowen and wife Sara of Rosedale and Seth Bowen and wife Nikki of Oberlin, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Pearl, Oliver, Evie, Ayden, Kinsley, Abel and Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at Reelsville United Methodist Church, 7114 S. CR 635 West, Reelsville, IN 46171. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and also one hour prior to time of service at the church on Thursday.

Burial will follow in Merom Cemetery in Merom.
