Richard ‘Dick’ L. York

Richard “Dick” L. York, 75, of Greencastle, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.

He was the son of Donald S. and Olive M. (Robertson) York. He was born on Sept. 18, 1944 in Greencastle.

Richard was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

He married Judy Capps on Dec. 2, 2000 and she survives.

He worked for IBM for 32 years and then drove a truck for 10 years and then retired from Teamsters.

Richard was a “Mr. Fix It.” There was nothing he couldn’t fix (except cancer). He loved driving any kind of equipment. He called a semi a “Gentle Giant.” He enjoyed piddling on his tailgate in his garage and working on old John Deere lawn mowers.

He was an avid fan of the “Intimidator,” Dale Earnhardt Sr. He enjoyed his monthly get-together with his cousins and hanging out at the “Candy Store.”

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Don and Olive York, and a brother, James Leonard York, of whom he is going to meet up at the old oak tree.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Todd) Crosby, his son, Rick (Shelli) York, grandson Zane Crosby and granddaughters Brittney and Brooke York.

He is also survived by Judy’s children Joe (Leesa) Beaman and Julie (Kenny) Scroggin; grandchildren Audrey, Hannah and Emma Jo Beamon and Jessee, Kenslee and Josee Scroggin; and great-grandchildren Sammy and Rollie.

Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale are in charge of the arrangements.

Per Richard’s request, there will be no visitation or service, and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mary Allison Children Trust, In Memory of Richard, at P.O. Box 369, Greencastle, IN 46135.
