Finally, after the game, bedlam erupted as fans rushed to celebrate with their team and the players rushed to sieze the Monon Bell, which, despite its 300-pound weight, seemed to float effortlessly above the cheering masses.

Having just taken possession of the coveted Monon Bell Saturday afternoon, DePauw University linemen (from left) Michael Hettinger, Luke Brake, Jared Penry and Daniel Scotto celebrated the Tigers’ thrilling 17-13 win over rival Wabash in the 126th Monon Bell Classic. A victory punctuated by a 62-yard touchdown pass in the final minute followed by one last defensive stand, the game marked DePauw’s first Monon Bell victory since the 2016 game at Crawfordsville. For seniors Hettinger and Penry, it was their first Monon Bell win since they were freshman, while juniors Brake and Scotto got their first win over Wabash.
