On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Greencastle Rotary Club presented a $500 donation to the Mary Allison Children’s Trust.

“It is the goal of our club to help the community in as many ways as possible,” said Rotary President-Elect Brooke Trissel. “We want to be a club that helps in any way possible throughout the community.

“It is not just writing a check,” she added. “It is volunteering at different events throughout the county, city clean-up and helping at our county schools.”

The Mary Allison Children’s Trust was established in 1896 and continues to support children in Putnam County. In 1912, a house was purchased by the board of directors to serve as a home for children. In 1993, this home was sold due to the declining number of residents.

Today, the trust maintains money in unrestricted funds at each of the nine elementary schools in Putnam County. These funds are available to the school counselor to assist needy children when other resources may be exhausted.

Funds have been used to purchase eyeglasses, medication, school books, school supplies, hearing aids and shoes.

The Greencastle Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Inn at DePauw. The club invites anyone who would like to learn more about Rotary to attend.
