Habitat board members excited for new home project

Highlighting a new start for both the organization and a Putnam County family, members of Putnam County Habitat for Humanity recently came together with the Hubbard-Hoagland family to break ground on a new home on Albin Pond Road.

The home is being constructed for Chase Hubbard and Olivia Hoagland, along with their children Henry and Charlotte.

Commenting on what the new build means for both the organization and the family, members of Habitat for Humanity recently provided statements to the Banner Graphic.

“I am so excited to be involved in this build,” wrote Board President Scott Dunbar. “It has been a lot of planning by our board and construction committee. We are looking forward to moving Chase, Olivia, Henry and Charlotte into their new home next year.

“This project will only be successful with hard work and financial support from our community, sweat equity from the family, the leadership of great staff, board and its committee and by God’s grace,” he added.

It has been anticipated that with dedicated volunteer work, the construction will hopefully be completed in August of next year.

“By this time next year, the Hoagland-Hubbard family should be in their home,” wrote Board Treasurer Samantha Cooper. “That’s the moment I’m looking forward to the most.”

After being inactive for approximately three years, the new opportunity to build a home for a local family means that Putnam County Habitat for Humanity is ready to invest in the community.

“The groundbreaking of our next build is a reminder to Putnam County that Habitat for Humanity is active and ready to assist,” board member Jake Widner also wrote. “I am blessed to serve on the board, just as Putnam County is blessed with this powerful organization.”

The Banner Graphic published an interview with Executive Director David L. English, who discussed how the organization helps recipient families through the construction and financing process, in late October. In the end, he still sees his role as a way to give back to others.

“As a lifelong resident of Putnam County, it is truly my pleasure to give back to my community in a manner that will enhance and enrich the community, via helping a family achieve stable, affordable and appropriate housing,” English wrote to the Banner Graphic. “Our partners in the build will be able to be more involved in the community, and contribute to a more stable and sustainable community.”

To help make this project a reality, sustaining financial support from local businesses has become a necessary initiative for the organization. For his part, English has faith that others will pull together to see it through to completion.

“This comes about through the generous giving of the community, through individuals, organizations and businesses of all sizes,” English added. “We have not reached our build goal yet, but with the support of the entire Putnam County community, we will do such.”
