Rep. Baird supports passage of USMCA legislation in House
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After a long delay and prolonged negotiation, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
Indiana Fourth District Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) voted Thursday to pass H.R. 5430, the USMCA Implementation Act.
“For several months I’ve been vocal about the importance of passing USMCA for Indiana,” Baird said. “I’ve heard from constituents and their desire to get this deal done. I’ve also encouraged my colleagues to push for a vote.
“I applaud the leadership of President Trump to get this historic deal accomplished. Today’s passage of USMCA will give businesses, manufacturers and farmers across our district increased opportunity to grow.”
Congressman Baird said that in 2018, Indiana exported more than $18 billion to Mexico and Canada.
“Under USMCA that number will rise,” he predicted. “This trade deal is a big win for our automotive industry, agriculture community and for the protection of our intellectual property. With this improved trade agreement, we will see better market access and job growth here at home.
“I’m proud to support the passage of USMCA and look forward to supporting more victories for the U.S. economy,” he concluded.
