Robinson gets two more BMA nominations

Thursday, January 23, 2020

After making his latest album of acclaimed soul blues in Memphis, Tad Robinson will have the chance to return to western Tennessee to see if the album garnered any awards.

Earlier this month, the Blues Foundation announced the 2020 nominations for the Blues Music Awards, with Robinson nominated as the Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year and the album “Real Street” nominated for Soul Blues Album of the Year.

The ceremony will take place in May in Memphis.

Originally in Memphis on a Creative Renewal Fellowship from The Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Greencastle-based singer wound up getting connected with Charles Hodges, Leroy Hodges and Howard Grimes, members of the Hi Rhythm Section that played with Al Green in his early-1970s prime.

The nominations mark the eighth and ninth of Robinson’s career, though that first BMA win remains elusive.
