• At 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Hunter L. Grimes, 16, Fillmore, was northbound on County Road 300 East in a 2005 Ford 500.

Grimes told Deputy Brian Helmer he met a group of southbound vehicles, and as he did, a pickup in the group pulled out to pass the others.

To avoid a head-on collision, Grimes said he veered off the roadway and entered the ditch, where he spun out of control and back onto the road. When the car left the road, it clipped a utility pole.

The vehicle that caused the accident continued southbound.

Grimes did not need medical attention.

His vehicle had to be towed. The utility pole remained safe and operational.

Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• A Brazil man rear-ended another car Monday afternoon after a spider landed on his face.

Russell K. Hansen, 36, Brazil, told Deputy Tanner Brown he was stopped southbound on Manhattan Road (County Road 445 West) at U.S. 40 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when the spider fell onto his face. He quickly grabbed it and threw it out the window.

However, as he did so, Hansen’s foot came off the brake pedal and his truck rolled forward into another stopped vehicle.

Breyuana M. Rhodes, 21, Brazil, told Brown she was stopped, waiting for traffic when the truck struck the rear of her 2011 Dodge Avenger.

Brown estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
