Dewey ‘Dude’ Abney

Dewey “Dude” Abney, 77 of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 6, 2020.

He was born on March 3, 1943 in Crawfordsville to the late John F. and Edith (Perkins) Abney.

Upon graduating from high school, he began working for Pace Dairy, and then worked at Clark Trucking for 27 years. He loved to ride motorcycles, doing fine leather craftsman work, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, guns and being a cowboy.

He was a member of the Eagles in Greencastle, and Crawfordsville, Sons of the VFW in Crawfordsville, Fish and Game Committee in Montezuma, American Legion in Rockville and in 2002 started with his companion, Jenny, The Doc’s Ride for Cancer. He was a natural leader and businessman. He was loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Jenny Harrison of Crawfordsville; children John Abney of Crawfordsville, Wanda Summers of Wingate, Tenn., and Clint Abney of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Jenny’s children, Brian (Heather) Harrison, Kim Hoffa (Ryan) and Bruce (Donna) Harrison; siblings, Terry (Becky) Abney, Lee (Phylis) Abney and Pam (Billy) McIntyre; sisters-in-law, Lynn and Judy Abney; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Vance and brothers Mike and Gary Abney.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Roachdale Cemetery, with Bishop Robert Miller officiating. You are welcome to visit with the family from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the cemetery.
