City water customers asked to participate in income survey

Monday, October 12, 2020

The City of Greencastle is attempting to qualify for a $700,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (IOCRA) and is currently seeking grant funding to complete a water improvements construction project with grant dollars.

The CDBG program is a federally funded grant program intended to benefit residents with various community development public assistance projects such as planning studies, improvements to community centers, fire stations, wastewater, water, stormwater, etc. To receive the federally funded grant dollars, a special income survey must be completed.

The grant in question is the one which city officials have talked about affecting the new water rate increase. If the city does receive a $700,000, there will be no need for a third rate hike of 6.19 percent in 2023.

Income surveys will mailed to city water customers, asking residents to complete an income survey regarding their household and the income of the household.

If you are contacted, this means you have been randomly selected to participate in this important process. Persons may contact Kristy Jerrell, the project’s grant administrator, at 812-878-0826 with any questions regarding the project or the income survey. The public’s cooperation concerning this matter is greatly appreciated, Jerrell said.
