End Polio Now

Monday, October 19, 2020
Recognizing the impact Rotary International has had in nearly eradicating polio from the world through its PolioPlus program, Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory signs a proclamation declaring Saturday, Oct. 24 as Polio Day in Greencastle, in coordination with World Polio Day. Dory, a past president of the Greencastle Rotary Club, is joined by current President Brooke Trissel. Since the beginning of the PolioPlus campaign in 1988, polio cases have dropped by 99.9 percent, with Rotary having contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protecting more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. The organization is working to raise an additional $50 milliion per year, which would be leveraged for an additional $100 million annually from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
