County Jail

Six people have been booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 3:28 a.m. Joseph J. Wootan, 28, Bloomington, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and carrying a handgun without a license.

Wednesday

• At 3:39 p.m. Hickory L. Smith, 29, Brazil, was booked in on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 3:06 p.m. Joshua R. Church, 32, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and on a local warrant for theft.

Monday

• At 7:09 p.m. Harlin B. Cazum-Sagatume, 21, Simpsonville, Ky., was taken into custody for dealing in methamphetamine.

• At 7:08 p.m. Edgar E. Hernandez, 19, Louisville, was housed at the jail for dealing in methamphetamine and carrying a handgun without a license.

• At 1:21 p.m. Bambi L. Bicknell, 47, Greencastle, was booked in on a writ of body attachment and an out-of-county warrant.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Meghan C. O’Donnell, 36, Roachdale, was eastbound on County Road 900 North near the Putnam-Hendricks county line in a 2010 Ford Expedition when she hit a deer.

Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

The owners towed the vehicle back their residence.

• At 6:20 p.m. on Monday, Bradley W. Allen, 37, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 near County Road 425 East when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving left the road for an unknown reason.

The truck hit several mailboxes, a drainage culvert and signs belonging to the Indiana Department of Transportation and Cash Concrete, before coming to rest down an embankment.

Two witnesses stopped at the scene, telling officers they saw Allen traveling at an unsafe speed prior to the crash, passing them in a no-passing zone.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman investigated Allen for driving while intoxicated. The suspect provided a blood sample showing a .156 alcohol concentration equivalent.

After being cleared medically, Allen was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 8:34 p.m. on the charge of driving while intoxicated.

Freeman was assisted at the scene by other deputies, Putnam County EMS, the Fillmore Community Volunteer Fire Department and Curtis Towing.

Freeman estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The truck was registered to Morgan Carmony of Lafayette.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches:

• At 3:36 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a tree in the road at the corner of Apple and Main streets. Firefighters found the tree at 3:39 and removed it. GFD went back into service at 4 a.m.

• At 5:19 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a firework explosion at 1238 Castlebury Dr. Firefighters arrived at 5:21 to find the building full of smoke. The building was ventilated, and GFD went back into service at 5:53 a.m.

• At 7:09 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Music on the Square for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:13 and were advised that the alarm was already reset. GFD went back into service at 7:24 a.m.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 407 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:33 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:38 p.m.

• At 7:48 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Simpson House for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:51 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:56 p.m.

• At 10:27 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:32 and reset the alarm, but no cause was recorded. GFD went back into service at 10:39 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed six medical assists and had one disregard.
