Children should be able to sleep at night, eat properly, have good self-esteem and pay attention at school free from dental pain, dentists believe.

The staff, at Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry, implemented its first Give Kids A Smile Program in 2003. Since then, it has delivered more than $100,000 worth of dental care to more than 250 school children in the Putnam County area.

The program has always taken place later in the spring than the National Give Kids a Smile Program in February due to weather conditions being unpredictable. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issues with social distancing, and the logistics of providing services, Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry will not be able to run its program this spring 2021 as it has in past years.

Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry is willing, however, to treat any child safely via its nursing staffs and administrations who might be aware of children in need.

“We do not want families to miss out on access to dental care,” a Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry spokesman said. “Please do not hesitate to reach out to the school nursing staffs if you have a child in need so that they can be prioritized.

“The worst dental problems needing attention will be prioritized first. We hope to continue providing access to care for these children in need.”

The office will not be scheduling anyone not going through their school nursing staff.
