Barbara Lucille Ellis, 83, of Coatesville, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at her home in the early morning hours surrounded by her family.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1938 in Maysville, Ky. Barbara was born to Brack and Emma (Vantine) Neff.

She grew up on the banks of the Ohio River, where she found her love for horses. She loved to ride and show horses and she did so for most of the first half of her life.

Barbara followed her husband, Frank, whom she married on Jan. 1, 1953, to Germany, where he was stationed in the U.S. Army, and they lived there for almost two years. They then moved back to the States and moved from Kentucky to Indiana, where they eventually settled down on a small farm just east of Coatesville.

Barbara lived on this small farm for her final 56 years with her family. She worked alongside her husband, farming as well as being a homemaker and mother.

She loved to garden and was known for her “green thumb.” She enjoyed being outdoors and would be outside all day long if she was not cooking one of her delicious homemade meals.

Barbara hand-made wooden crafts and for many years, and she had a booth at the Mansfield Covered Bridge Festival.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa Moore of Coatesville and her three granddaughters, Brooklyn (Austin) of Fairmount and Paris and London Moore of Coatesville. She has two great-grandchildren, Anya and Tobias Christianson of Fairmount. Barbara is also survived by her two sisters, Norma Nicholas of Avon and Christine Smitson of Plainfield, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Brack and Emma; her brother Louis “Bud” Neff; and her husband of 62 years, Frank Ellis.

Services are entrusted to Bousley Funeral Home in Coatesville and Rev. Shelly A. Zook, with visitation from noon until the service begins at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
