PCCF, Chamber helping nonprofits through these challenging times

My family and I have lived in Putnam County for more than 20 years. Putnam County has a great small-town atmosphere with friendly and caring people.

We have so many family-friendly opportunities here, from our local park system to the Putnam County Playhouse, museum, 4-H, church and everything that DePauw University contributes to our community.

We wanted a hometown that was welcoming to all and where we could laugh, cry, celebrate and come together as a community. So I looked at ways to be involved and be a part of this wonderful community.

Therefore, I could not think of a better way to be involved than working for the Putnam County Community Foundation and the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce when the opportunity came about. Every day I get to experience the incredible people of Putnam County through two of our more than 400 nonprofit organizations within the county.

I have worked at the Putnam County Community Foundation for a little over a year now. I could not be prouder to be a part of such a caring team. They help and provide for the community in so many ways, from training and education for our nonprofits to assisting our schools with scholarships and ongoing funding. 2020 was a challenging year for our community, but the Foundation stepped up to find ways to help our community once again. That is why I am proud to be part of our team.

The Foundation recognizes a concern in our community and finds ways to help solve these problems.

I have also worked for the Putnam County Chamber for five years. They focus on how to help businesses and nonprofits throughout the county. They do this by training, networking, marketing, listening to concerns and finding ways to help enhance our business community.

As you can see, both of these organizations have our community in mind at all times. So, it was no surprise to me when the Foundation and the Chamber worked together to help our local nonprofits. The Putnam County Community Foundation awarded a grant to cover the cost of Chamber memberships for all nonprofits. Hence, this paid for the local nonprofits to keep their membership current with the Chamber for 2021. This gives our nonprofits access to the tools that the Chamber has to offer without impacting their budget.

The Foundation knows that nonprofits have been hit hard by COVID-19 and wants to continue to help them move forward into 2021. This collaborative effort is what makes our community a great place to live.

If we have a healthy business community, then we can have a strong supporting donor base. If we have a strong donor base, then we can have a strong nonprofit network to help with our community’s needs. Healthy businesses and nonprofit communities are what we need to excel here in Putnam County.

Working together, we can continue to make Putnam County a great place to live. Thanks for helping make our county a place people want to call home.

  • Great article Beth! Love our clean little town and we enjoying supporting and buying local. No reason to have to go to the big city!
