Who Will Wear the Crown?

The 2021 Putnam County 4-H Fair Queen will be crowned on Saturday night at the Fairgrounds Community Building. At the end of the evening, 2020 Queen Kinzee Wilson (right) will crown one of the seven young ladies vying for the title. This year’s contestants include (from left) Clarissa Gibson, Kylee McCollough, Hannah Sims, Grace Fry, Kristina Taylor, Gayle Baugh and Haylee Cox. The contest begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 6:30. Admission is $5 or free for kids six years old and younger. To learn more about the contestants, turn to page 12A.

Seven young ladies stand ready to accept the Putnam County Fair Queen crown from 2020 winner Kinzee Wilson.

The queen contest is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 at the Fairgrounds Community Building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 or free for kids six years old and younger.

Haylee Cox

Haylee is the 19-year-old daughter of Dale and Myra Cox and the older sister to Addilyn and Morgan.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2020, earning both academic and technical honors diplomas. While in high school, Haylee was a part of the softball team and the cheerleading squad. She was the fall and winter cheer captain, as well as the mental attitude award recipient. She was also involved in a few clubs, including FCA and Pep Club.

She is continuing her education at Ivy Tech Community college, majoring in diagnostic medical sonography. She is currently employed at The Waters of Greencastle as a CNA and was nominated by her residents as employee of the month for the month of May for her compassionate care.

Haylee was a 10-year 4-H member, participating in the swine and dairy barns, as well as photography and cake decorating.

After she completes her degree in sonography, Haylee hopes to become an ultrasound technician.

Gayle Baugh

Gayle is the 19-year-old daughter of Jerrod and Tara Baugh.

She graduated from Cloverdale High School in 2020 earning a technical honors diploma. While in high school, Gayle was a part of the varsity golf team and the varsity cheerleading squad, where she earned many awards competing in both, including the 2019 Putnam County Outstanding Senior Cheerleader Award. Gayle was also involved with numerous clubs and organizations including FFA, Girl Scouts, Job’s Daughters, P.I.E Coalition, D.A.R and the Putnam County Youth Philanthropy Committee.

She is continuing her education at Vincennes University, majoring in agriculture education. At Vincennes she is currently on the cheerleading team and involved in the education and horticulture club.

Gayle was a past 10-year 4-H member, participating in the poultry barn, as well as completing 20 projects each year in the community building.

After she completes her degree in agriculture education, Gayle hopes to become an agriculture teacher and the FFA adviser.

Kristina Taylor

Kristina is the 18-year-old daughter of Bill and Nickie Taylor, and the older sister to Josh.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2021 earning a technical honors diploma. While in high school, Kristina was part of the cheerleading squad all through high school and her senior year was winter cheer captain. Kristina was also involved in the National Honor Society.

She is continuing her education at IUPUI , majoring in dental hygiene. She is currently employed at The Red Raccoon and interned at Bolt Family Dental as well.

Kristina is a 10-year 4-H member, participating in archery and sewing.

After she completes her degree in dental hygiene, Kristina hopes to work locally as a dental hygienist.

Grace Fry

Grace is the 19-year-old daughter of Dan and Paula Fry, the middle sister to Sarah and Katie.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2020, earning both academic and technical honors diplomas. While in high school, Grace was a part of the soccer team and was a manager for the girls’ basketball team. She was varsity captain her junior and senior year, as well as all-conference her senior year. Grace was also involved with a few clubs including FFA, National Honor Society, Pep Club, SALT, PIE and Key Club.

She is continuing her education at Oklahoma State University, majoring in ag communications and animal science. She is currently employed at Doub Solutions.

Grace was a 10-year 4-H member, participating in the Swine, Beef, Sheep and Goat barn as well as photography and cake decorating.

After earning her degree, Grace hopes to work in the marketing and sales side of the ag industry.

Hannah Sims

Hannah is the 19-year-old daughter of Kris and Jenny Sims and older sister to Pete and younger sister to Sydney.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2020, earning both academic and technical honors diplomas. While in high school, Hannah was a part of the basketball team, soccer team and track team. She was also the captain of the basketball team her senior year as well as captain of the soccer team her junior and senior year. Hannah was also involved in many clubs, including FCA, S.A.L.T, Pep Club and many more.

She is continuing her education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, majoring in agribusiness Economics. She is currently employed at Bears Lawn Care.

Hannah was a 10-year 4-H member, spending her time in the horse and pony barn as well as the swine barn.

After she completes her degree in agribusiness economics, she hopes to pursue a career in seed sales.

Kylee McCollough

Kylee is the 19-year-old daughter of Alisha and David McCollough and older sister to Mackenzie, Madelyn, Samuel, Wyatt and Wade.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2020. While in high school, Kylee was a part of the soccer team, basketball team, swim and dive team, track team and the cheerleading squad.

She is continuing her education at Ivy Tech Community college, majoring in nursing. She is currently employed at IU Health, at the west hospital in Avon as a CNA. She has been a CNA since her junior year of high school, starting her career at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle.

Kylee was an eight-year 4-H member. While her time was shorter, she participated in the sheep barn, horse barn and the rabbit barn, as well as the community building, doing photography, miscellaneous crafts and baking.

After she completes her degree in nursing, Kylee hopes to become a registered nurse at IU West Hospital.

Clarissa Gibson

Clarissa is the 19-year-old daughter of Eric and Julie Gibson. She has two siblings, Camryn and Keegan Gibson.

She graduated from North Putnam High School in 2020, earning both Academic and Technical Honors Diplomas. While in high school, Clarissa competed on the softball, basketball and volleyball teams. She was involved in the following clubs: National Honor Society, FFA, Pep Club, PIE Coalition and the Student Athletic Leadership Team.

She will be a sophomore at IUPUI, pursuing her degree in dental hygiene. She is currently employed at The Putnam Inn as a server.

Clarissa was a 10-year 4-H member, active in the goat barn, as well as completing projects in photography, scrapbooking, foods, cake decorating and clothing.

After Clarissa completes dental hygiene school, she hopes to become a dental hygienist.
