UPDATE: Participants identified in Cloverdale bar fight, shooting
CLOVERDALE — A Poland woman was shot, and multiple people will face charges following a large fight outside a Cloverdale bar Friday night.
Cloverdale Deputy Marshal Daniel Warren was called to Red Roof Liquor Bar & Grill, 5 E. Market St., at 10:36 p.m. regarding a female who had been shot.
The victim, Sierra Miller, 36, Poland, spent the night in an Indianapolis hospital for a bullet wound in which the projectile had traveled all the way through her upper left chest/shoulder area.
She is, however, expected to recover and is among the seven people facing initial charges in the case.
Marsha Denis, 40, Brazil, is believed to have been the shooter and will face a Level 6 felony charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm.
The incident allegedly began as an argument between the two men the women were with at the bar — Zachary Davis, 36, Cloverdale, and Michael Floyd, 31, Centerpoint. The two men were reportedly arguing over who could hit harder on a punching bag game inside the bar.
The officers reported that when Floyd and Denis tried to leave the bar, Davis and another man followed them out, allegedly battering Floyd in the bar’s entryway.
The violence soon carried on outside, with other participants spilling out of the bar, where a melee ensued.
At some point, Miller is alleged to have attacked Denis. As the two women struggled, Denis began to fall to the ground at the same time she was attempting to pull out a handgun.
Miller was shot as they went to the ground.
Upon Warren’s arrival at the bar, Denis and Floyd had fled the scene. However, they soon called 911 Dispatch from the Cloverdale Econolodge to report the shooting.
Putnam County deputies and Indiana State troopers responded to Econolodge to question Denis and Floyd.
Aside from Denis’ criminal recklessness charge, six people were charged with battery.
Davis was charged with Level 6 felony battery.
Floyd and Miller, as well as Austin Perdue, 22, Cloverdale; Brian Wallace, 21, Cloverdale; and Ivy Smith, 22, Quincy, were all charged with Class A misdemeanor battery. Wallace faces an additional charge of Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The case will be turned over to the Putnam County Prosecutor for formal charges.
