Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

Erwin told Deputy Todd Hopkins she swerved to miss a skunk in the road. She then looked back to see if she avoided the animal. When she looked back at the road, she was running off the edge into the ditch.

Erwin’s vehicle got into loose gravel and she began overcorrecting, finally entering the ditch and rolling the vehicle onto its roof.

Erwin had only a small scrape on her arm. She was evaluated by medics and then released.

The SUV was towed. Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:10 a.m. on Friday, July 8, Richard A. Martin, 76, Coatesville, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra.

Martin told officers he hydroplaned and lost control in a curve, leaving the road and hitting a tree.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy David Bennett estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Bennett was assisted by Sheriff Scott Stockton and Sgt. Riley Houghton.
