Walmart to remodel 15 stores, invest $75 million in Indiana

Thursday, September 1, 2022

Walmart plans to invest more than $75 million this year in Indiana to update and remodel 15 local stores.

In addition to the local jobs the investment supports, these store transformations will create an updated experience for customers, including expanded shopping options to help people save time and money.

The stores involved include two at Evansville and one each at Valparaiso, LaPorte, Hammond, Decatur, Connersville, Greenfield, Boonville, Jasper, Seymour, Madison, Tell City, Paoli and New Albany.

When complete, many remodeled stores will offer pick up, delivery and Express delivery, which are deliveries in under two hours. These new conveniences will also make the Walmart+ membership program available to more customers. Walmart+ benefits include free shipping (no minimum), free delivery from stores ($35 minimum), a discount on fuel as well as early access offers throughout the year.

“Our local stores have never been more important to the way we serve customers today and, in the future,” Regional General Manager, East Indiana, Jessica Villanueva. “Nearly 90 percent of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a Walmart, so whether someone is shopping in-store, online, through mobile or Pick Up, our brick-and-mortar stores play a role in fulfilling those orders.”

“These investments will make it easier for our stores and associates to get customers what they want, when they want it,” said Jarred Crabtree, Regional General Manager, West Indiana. “I’m proud of our associates’ continued hard work taking care of our customers as they navigate the new enhanced experience.”

Walmart plans to transform its stores in communities across Indiana and will host grand reopening celebrations at each location.

The following are examples of the customer-focused improvements being made in Walmart stores across Indiana:

Pickup -- Busy customers love Walmart’s pickup option. It gives them the convenience of shopping online and the ease of quickly picking up groceries without leaving their cars. There is no fee to use Walmart grocery pickup. Customers using SNAP also have the option to use pickup services in most states.

Delivery -- Walmart’s convenient delivery service is also a hit with customers. Additionally, Walmart has now made pickup and delivery services contact-free.

Express delivery -- Customers now have the option to receive deliveries made in under two hours.

-- New fixtures, LED lighting, and flooring throughout the entire store for better line of sight and easier navigation.

-- Refreshed interior and exterior, including paint and signag.

-- Modernized, remodeled bathrooms, including an added or refreshed mother’s room for a clean, comfortable, and private option for nursing mothers

-- Front end transformation with increased numbers of self-checkout lanes and staffed registers for customer convenience.

-- Expansion of departments with a diverse variety of products, including summer merchandise to provide summer fun year-round.

-- Walmart Pay – a touch-free way to pay.

  • Greencastle is not included? Our store needs a lot of help, very few cashiers, only a few self-scan stations, stock items littering the aisles, bad produce, etc. etc. Maybe these are managerial issues but most out-of-town Walmarts make ours look sick. A new Meijer here would put Walmart out of business.

  • Or the competition brings out the things you mention.

I know competition is considered evil by the majority of the SSSCLL theologians but the changes you want would happen if they wanted to stay impactful.

    Practical sense

  • Didn't Greencastle Walmart go through remodeling about 3 years ago?

  • Hope they made a huge break room with the increase of self checkouts for all of us new employees!

  • Remodeled or not Greencastle Walmart is disgraceful!

As Mr. Dover said most other stores to which you may go are better.
