Five county runners qualify for Shelbyville Semistate

INDIANAPOLIS – Five Putnam County runners will participate in the IHSAA Shelbyville Semistate after qualifying as individuals from the Ben Davis Regional Saturday morning.

Greencastle’s Landon Miller (16:41) finished 20th overall in the boys’ race, followed by North Putnam’s Brayden Monnett (16:47) in 22nd place with Tiger Cub junior Charlie Menzel (16:59) finishing 25th overall and Cougar sophomore Jeremiah Miles (17:07) finishing 30th overall to qualify for the semistate.

In the girls’ race, Cloverdale finished 10th in the team standings with Ella Szczerbik (20:42) finishing 29th overall, qualifying for the semistate race.

Behind Szczerbik was Abigail Nees (22:04) in 49th place while Daphanie Geiger (23:34) and Olivia Hemmerling (23:53) finished 71st and 72nd overall while Ludovica Savoiani (26:04) placed 85th and Hannah Baker (26:57) 88th overall.

South Putnam’s Keaton Chew (17:36) and Dunkin York (17:50) finished 45th and 51st overall in the boys’ race. Eagle freshman Elise Kendall (22:03) finished 47th in the girls’ race while North Putnam’s Jacy Huffman (22:31) and Maddie Trent (22:39) finished 57th and 59th overall.

Zionsville dominated the boys’ race, winning on 28 points with Brownsburg second on 72 points. Plainfield’s Emerson Nehring won the boys’ individual title with a time of 15:30.

The Eagles also cruised to the girls’ title on 30 points with the Bulldogs beating out rivals Avon for second 70-78. Oriole Jessica Hegedus won the girls’ individual title in 18:08.
