Dorothy Jane Beams

Dorothy Jane Beams, 95, of Greencastle, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at Hickory Creek at Sunset.

Dorothy was born in Greencastle on Jan. 23, 1927, the daughter of Virgil and Zelah (Tarr) Varvel.

She was a 1945 graduate of Greencastle High School. She attended Indiana Business School in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Beams worked for many years as a bookkeeper and secretary for Coopers and Lybrand now Price Waterhouse, in Fort Myers, Fla., until her retirement.

Survivors include her daughter, Darla Blacketer; five grandchildren, Charles, Thommie, Brooke, Amanda and Emily; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert Joseph Blacketer and William Beams; a son, Joe Keith Blacketer, a brother, Forrest Varvel and a granddaughter, Stacey Anne Brewer.

Services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Champion officiating. Burial will follow in Putnamville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
