Robe-Ann Park lights effort to kick off with Dec. 3 parade
For the third year in a row, the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department and the Greencastle Civic League are holding the Winter Wonderland Lights Festival in Robe-Ann Park.
The park will be lit up beginning Dec. 3 and continuing through Jan. 6 from dusk to dawn each night. The lights display is open to the public and admission is free.
As a kickoff to the event, the second annual Holiday Parade is scheduled for Dec. 3, beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will start at Greencastle High School and end at the bandshell at Robe-Ann Park.
Santa will be available directly after the parade for visits and pictures. The Greencastle Professional Firefighters Union will be on hand with cookies.
More than tripled in size from the first year’s festival, lights now span nearly every corner of the park. More than 40 volunteers with park staff have helped install lights throughout November, braving wind, rain, snow and sun.
The Civic League offers thanks to the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau as its main sponsor. Thanks also to the Friends of the Park and Rescued Treasures for their donations.
The goal is to continue to expand the lights throughout the park over the next two years, while keeping the event free to the public. Financial donations and volunteers are welcome in making this event happen. You can learn more and donate on the Greencastle Civic League website at https://greencastlecivicleague.org/donate/.
