County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 5:01 p.m. Amber L. Bennett, 36, Terre Haute, was taken into custody for criminal trespass.

• At 1:33 p.m. Terre N. Cooksey, 38, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 1:22 p.m. Arthur L. Rose, 48, Greencastle, was booked in for battery resulting in bodily injury on a person less than 14 years old and for driving with a suspended license.

• At 3:36 a.m. Kayla M. Rhoads, 34, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery.

Tuesday

• At 10:06 p.m. Anna M. Brinson, 22, Jasonville, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 9:23 a.m. Gregory M. Rose, 61, Oklahoma City, was housed at the jail for invasion or privacy.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Brandy Wilson, 31, Cloverdale, was eastbound on County Road 1000 South in a 2006 Buick Lucerne when she hit a deer.

Deputy Josh Clark estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 4:16 p.m. on Monday, Samuel R. Mills, 42, Fillmore, was westbound on County Road 50 North when he attempted to turn left onto County Road 300 East.

In doing so, Mills turned into the path of an eastbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Adam C. Hamilton, 38, Coatesville. Hamilton could not avoid the crash.

Both vehicles were towed. Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine incidents since Monday evening:

• At 6:16 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:21 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:37 p.m.

• At 9:03 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD received a direct call for a gas leak at 418 E. Washington St. Firefighters arrived at 9:04 to a smell of gas emanating at the property. CenterPoint Energy was contacted and the leak was located to a furnace. The gas to the building was shut off. GFD went back into service at 9:33 a.m.

• At 10:08 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Tzouanakis Intermediate School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:11 and were advised that the school was conducting a fire drill and did not contact the alarm company. GFD went back into service at 10:13 a.m.

• At 8:52 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD received a direct call for a stove fire in an apartment at 1007 Canterbury Dr. Firefighters arrived at 8:55 and determined that an electrical element on a stove had burned. The fire was out before their arrival. The stove was unplugged and power to it was secured. GFD went back into service at 9:11 p.m.

• At 3:07 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD received a direct call for a gas leak at Phi Delta Theta at DePauw University. Firefighters arrived at 3:09 and determined that a pilot light was out on a stove. The gas to the kitchen was secured. GFD went back into service at 3:34 a.m.

• At 9:17 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle High School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:21 as they were advised that there was no fire. It was determined the alarm was due to construction. GFD went back into service at 9:30 a.m.

• At 4:53 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of county roads 200 North and 25 East for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 5:01 p.m. and removed it. GFD went back into service at 6:24 p.m.

• At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:32 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:41 p.m.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 803 S. Fillmore Rd. for a power line down. Firefighters arrived at nearby residence at 8:43 and found a line across a home with a telephone pole on fire. Hendricks Power was contacted and the property was secured. GFD went back into service at 10:15 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to seven medical assists, had one false alarm and had one disregard in and around this timeframe.
